A delightful stay in Kuda Huraa

The Four Seasons resorts in the Maldives offer stunning scenery and an intimate atmosphere: a real haven for those seeking total escape from the rest of the world. I was recently lucky enough to stay in the luxurious settings of the Four Seasons Kuda Huraa.

After a seamless transfer in Male, where our luggage was whisked away by the Four Seasons staff, we were taken to our luxury speedboat for the 30 minute journey to the resort.

The resort is split into two parts, Sunrise & Sunset, and they each have a selection of beach villas, bungalows and water villas/suites. There is a kids’ club tucked away by the children’s pool and a huge infinity pool overlooking the beautiful ocean. We were staying in beach villas which had direct access to the beach, were located next to the pool and also had their own private pools. It was a fabulous size with a large bathroom, welcoming décor throughout and a choice of indoor and outdoor showers.

During my stay we ate at Café Huraa, an informal dining experience, Reef Club, an Italian restaurant offering weekly lobster events in a magical overwater setting, and Baraabaru where we had an Indian cooking class before enjoying the most delicious Indian cuisine I have ever tasted. We took an evening dolphin cruise from Kuda Huraa and got some fantastic photos of the dolphins swimming alongside us. There is also the option to learn to dive as they have a PADI-licensed Dive Centre and depending on how active you are feeling there is a selection of water sports on offer.

Kuda Huraa have their own private island spa where you sail in a wooden dhoni (traditional Maldivian boat) across the lagoon to the island. They offer a sumptuous selection of treatments offering full spa facilities complete with oversized deep soaking tubs and a private garden courtyard with an open-air shower.

The ideal combination of urban chic and rural bliss

The direct flights to Florence with Air Meridiana make the city the perfect destination when you’re tight for time, or when you’re looking for a weekend away.

I arrived at the Four Seasons Hotel Firenze which is discreetly tucked away and is an oasis of calm within the bustling city. I was immediately enchanted by the hotel lobby which is stunningly decorated and makes you feel like royalty the moment you arrive. This hotel has only been open for a couple of months but already it is being hailed as the best hotel in Florence- and for good reason. Everything from the rooms, suites and grounds is opulent and luxurious without being too over the top or imposing. The oversized swimming pool, large grounds and spacious spa mean you certainly won’t get bored and for any gym bunnies the equipment is state of the art.

My favourite part of the hotel had to be Il Palagio where we had breakfast. It features vaulted ceilings, elegant décor and lovely views of the inner gardens. Large French doors open to a terrace that offers al fresco dining.

After a delicious breakfast we set off for a short stroll around San Gimignano, a lovely village a short drive from the city centre. Here you can browse the shops or enjoy a coffee in a quaint café whilst watching the world go by. We then visited the wine cellars at Badia a Paddignano and sampled their glorious in-house wine before heading back to the Four Seasons to relax.

We enjoyed some sightseeing with our private guide around the centre of Florence and of course managed to fit in some shopping. There are designer shops as well as a fabulous market so all tastes and budgets are catered for.

My weekend break really gave me a taste for this beautiful city, and I am already planning my next visit.

Endless luxury in an island paradise

My trip to the Bahamas in June began in style with a 10 hour flight to Nassau in Club Class with BA. The islands offer a fantastic range of hotels offering secluded and idyllic holidays.

The new Cove Atlantis, despite its 600 suites manages to feel like a boutique hotel; the highlight was Cain, the adult-only pool with luxurious private cabanas, great music, and a Miami vibe. If you’re looking for a haven of calm try the One&Only Ocean Club with its impressively manicured gardens. Sample the delicious cocktails served in the beachfront bar for the perfect end to the day in this wonderfully comfortable establishment. If you get the chance, make sure you go on a boat trip to Stocking Island where you can while away the day swimming, snorkeling and sampling the delicious Bahama Mama cocktails.

The private island hideaway of Kamalame Cay can be reached by a short plane ride in your own six seater plane. The Robinson Crusoe-style island has just 19 rooms and suites and one four bedroom villa. It really is the perfect place to escape and unwind; the atmosphere is relaxed, and as the resort is all inclusive, everything you could want is on hand.

The fabulous pink sand beach on Harbour Island is another highly recommended place to visit. Coral Sands Hotel is decorated in a colonial style whilst Pink Sands has more of a contemporary feel. The two bedroom beach house at Coral Sands, designed by Barbara Hulanicki, is the perfect place for a relaxing break.
