The largest city in Egypt and Africa, with over 18 million inhabitants, the megalopolis of Cairo never seizes to amaze and captivate its visitors. Skyscrapers juxtapose traditional buildings and mosques, while local cafes can be found within walking distance of upscale restaurants and bars; Cairo simply is a city of contrasts. Boasting mild winters, where rainfall is minimal to nonexistent, and hot summers that are ideal for lounging around a pool after a long day of sightseeing.
Cairo is a popular destination for those who are interested in Egypt’s glorious history, with notable attractions that include the Pyramids of Giza, The Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum. Today Cairo has more to offer its visitors then just her glorious past. Enjoy a felucca ride along the Nile, quad biking in the desert or wonder about the Khan el Khalili Bazaar and pick up exotic ornaments to take home.
GO THERE FOR
The Pyramids at Giza: Picture Cairo and the mind conjures images of the majestic pyramids set against the landscape. Simply put, the Pyramids are reason enough alone to visit this enchanting city. Absolutely unique on our planet and a link to this region’s rich history, the pyramids materialise ancient civilisation for us as the sole remaining wonder of the ancient world.
History: Along with the pyramids, the great ancient Egyptian civilisation left hundreds of thousands of other artefacts and sites that stimulate the imagination with thoughts of millennia past.
Weather: Cairo’s desert climate guarantees sunshine, hot weather and minimal rain. With only 2.9cm of rain a year, Cairo is certainly a destination to escape wetter climates.
Luxury: Cairo’s number of world class hotels, health spas, shopping locations, restaurants, bars and golf clubs place it near the top of the list of destinations to visit for those wanting to be pampered and spoil themselves.
The Nile: No other city has had such a strong and lasting relationship with its natural surroundings as Cairo and the Nile. Starting in Southern Rwanda the Nile is longer than any other river on earth and is a sight to behold. Ancient Egyptians relied on it for survival in Egypt’s dry, desert climate.
Suqs: Cairo is the world’s most populous Arabic city and suqs are instrumental in the daily life of its residents. There is no atmosphere like a hustling suq and it is an adventure worth having. Stroll through the stalls eyeing local produce, trinkets and souvenirs until something wins your heart. This is where the real fun begins. Haggling with friendly shop-keeps is an enjoyable and exciting experience that comes naturally in this setting; immersing yourself in the local culture and the reward of earning a memoir for a price that you think is fair makes for fond lasting memories.

If you’re not intending to hire a chauffeured limousine on your visit, the best way to get around Cairo is with a City Cab which are different from the regular black and white taxis. These bright coloured yellow cabs provide you with an air-conditioned and comfortable service, which can get you around town and even wait for you during meetings or when sightseeing. You will need to reserve in advance, usually 30 to 45 minutes.

The weather in summer is hot and sunny with temperatures regularly topping 40°C, even with the extreme heat this is the most popular time for many tourists to visit.
