The film adaptation of Maurice Sendak’s well known book Where the Wild Things Are has surprised many as it continues to capture the hearts and minds of fashion designers and older fans everywhere as well as enchanting its young target audience. The film launched in the US in October and is opening around the world before Christmas. If you haven’t seen it yet and can’t wait for a taste of this much anticipated film, then we suggest that you check out some of the wild-themed fashion ranges currently around which have been directly inspired by the film.
The collaboration between the film’s director Spike Jonze and Manhattan-based clothing line Opening Ceremony has been an instant hit, with some items looking seriously fashionable: it’s certainly lucky for designers that animal print and faux fur are perfectly on trend this season. The pieces make (not so) subtle references to the characters from the book, and range from Max’s one piece animal playsuit- for those who really want to get into character- to seriously glamorous fur-lined vests named after Max’s pal Judith.
Jewellery designer Pamela Love is also involved in the collaboration and her wild creature jewellery range featuring savage rings and spiky bangles are now available also through Opening Ceremony. Some more mainstream designers have also joined forces with the film’s production team to create items inspired by the book: Urban Outfitters have launched a range of t-shirts, trainer company Keds have produced limited edition aminal print pumps and fans can even buy Ugg boots for children which have Max’s crown or the eyes of the wild things printed on them.
The film is now showing in the USA and will be released on 11th December in the UK. http://wherethewildsthingsare.warnerbros.com
