Restaurants: 4 Garçons, Bangkok

Four men with respectable jobs in law, medicine and finance decided to partner up and open a French restaurant on Thong Lor: a bold move, given the recent proliferation of French food venues. But this one is a surefire winner - this spacious restaurant has a comfortable vibe due to low ceilings, Louis XIV armchairs and entrancing etchings hung on serene cream walls. The menu is classic French, such as Burgundy escargots with garlic and parsley and pate de campagne. Hearty main courses include duck confit with mustard sauce, and the big-seller, tender oxtail stew. One of the "garçons" specialises in bread and pastry, so expect traditional desserts such as tarte tatin and baba au rhum. The wine list features 80 bottles of wine from several Old and New World countries, of which six house wines can be ordered by the glass.
