Only recently I was very privileged to find myself sharing a very cool cup of coffee with someone who owned a 650cc Triumph TR6 Trophy Motorcycle. The exact same one made famous by Hollywood stars Steve McQueen and Johnny Depp. This man was an outsider - a literary Oxford man turned actor, writer and now post-nomadic explorer. He wore a Prince of Wales check suit and a faint smile as he related his journey's East of Albion, of his love of theatre and challenging terrains, and then, once in a while, his need to indulge in very post-nomadic art deco hotels, complete with tinkling grand pianos in the foyer and sometimes, in Vienna, a violin virtuoso that considered London the most beautiful city in the world - a sentiment that he himself agrees with.

I still wonder if he is right. After all, we do have some of the finest monuments in the world. And it has spawned some of the finest works of literature and art. And, most recently, the food could even be considered most special - though many still disagree with us.
